ABSTRACT
Total Physical Response (TPR) is a method of teaching English using a series of imperative sentences to which students respond with physical activity. It is suitable with the characteristic of young learner loves to do activity that involved physical activity. In TPR, the teachers are responsible for giving commands and monitoring actions taken by the students. The students are the imitators of teachers verbal and non-verbal. The teacher’s role was as a model and an instructor. The students’ role were as imitators because when the teacher used the imperative sentence to the students, they imitate the teacher’s actions physically. Drilling and modeling became the basic concept of TPR method. This method made students enjoy and memorize the materials in learning English easily. It can help young learners to memorize some commands or vocabularies using the physical movement. This method can be used to teach listening. The purpose of the research is to find out the result of teaching English using TPR to young learners. The method used in this research is a pre-experimental design research method with a one-shot case study design. The subject of the research is young learners in Mrican region.This research found that when teaching listening using TPR, the students felt happy and easy to understand the material while in learning process. In conclusion,the process of teaching listening using TPR to young learner is effective.
